Is Lake District good for cycling?
The Lake District is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK to cycle in. From country lanes to iconic climbs, the scenery is spectacular and it’s perfect cycling territory, especially for the more experienced cyclist. The Lake District’s cycling climbs are renowned and they’re not for the faint-hearted.

Lake District cycling Road cyclists and mountain bikers are spoilt for choice in the Lake District National Park. Lowther Castle has cycle trails and you can hire bikes and e-bikes at Lowther. See some great cycling around Windermere, including an off-road lake side trail.

Walk round Derwent Water The entire loop is 10 miles, so make sure you’ve got all day. Good places to start from are the National Trust car parks at Great Wood and Kettlewell which are both right on the lake shore.
How far is it to cycle around Lake Windermere?
There are 3 miles of traffic free cycle paths and a further couple of miles of very quiet roads south of Wray Castle on the western side of Windermere. The best thing about this route however, is that you can turn it into a real mini-adventure by catching the Windermere Bike Boat from the eastern shore of the lake.
Can you cycle around Coniston Lake?

You could mountain bike around Buttermere if you wish but in some places the pathway is narrow and bumpy. I certainly wouldn’t recommend having a child seat on the back. It is a beautiful lake and the pathway is level in most places. You could take a family walk around the lake allowing 2-3 hours with a picnic.
Can you cycle the Cumbria Way?
This easy cycling and walking trail runs along the western shoreline of the beautiful Coniston Water in the Lake District National Park. The route starts at the car park at Lake Road and runs through Coniston Hall Park to Hoathwaite Farm.
Can you walk all the way around lake Windermere?
Windermere is the longest natural lake in England, and possibly the most popular! You can reach all parts of it very easily from our cottages in Bowness and Windermere, Ambleside, or around the lake. Note: All of these walks can be found on OS Map OL7 – The English Lakes, South Eastern Area.
Is the Bowness ferry running?
Bowness / Windermere Ferry : It runs all year except for Christmas and Boxing day, and takes about 10 minutes to cross the centre of Windermere from Ferry Nab just south of Bowness to Ferry House at Far Sawrey. The service is run by the Highways Dept of Cumbria County Council.
Can you cycle around Bassenthwaite lake?
18 miles all around the lake. Good to cycle not to hilly. Views are great, always see a bird of prey along the way.
Can you cycle around Ladybower reservoir?
Our Ladybower cycle route starts from the free parking bay on the right, just before Fairholmes car park, and follows a clockwise direction around the reservoir. Allow two hours for cycling around Ladybower Reservoir with young kids, and add on more time for picnic and play stops.
