The West Side Piru (or the “West Side Bompton Piru”) are a long standing and active African American street gang formed in the 1970’s in Compton, California. This gang is believe to have been instrumental in the formation of the Bloods Alliance in Compton back in the early 1970’s.

As time passed, the Bloods spread to other locations and broke into individual “sets.” One such Bloods set based in Compton, California was called Piru Bloods. From this set emerged a subset known as Tree Top Pirus (TTP). The name derived from a group of streets in Compton named after trees.

Where to meet on the west side Piru?

After school, the West Side Pirus would meet at “Golden Bird Chicken,” a restaurant located at the corner of Rosecrans Ave, and sits on Central Ave. This was a popular hangout spot for the West Side Piru students throughout the 1990’s. However, this Golden Bird Chicken, location has since closed.
