What is an FPS score?
Faculty Point Score (FPS): this is a measure used to rank applicants. In some faculties (Health Sciences and Medicine), it is a combination of the APS and the NBT score and in other faculties (Commerce, Engineering, Humanities, and Law), it is the APS.
What marks do I need to get into UCT?
The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.
What is MedPS?
MedPS = Medicine Point Score (score out of 1000): This is used only for MBChB. It consists of the FPS + PR (i.e. NSC + NBT + PR scores added up).
Are NBTs required for 2022?
With the exception of programmes in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment, NBTs are required for admission to all undergraduate programmes for admission in 2022. The only exception is admission to programmes in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment, for which NBTs are not required.
What is the highest APS score?

The APS uses the National Senior Certificate scale of achievement, from 1 to 7. Thus, the highest APS that can be achieved is 42. Life Orientation is excluded from the calculation to determine the APS required for admission.
How does UWC point system work?
Generally, you get points for each matric subject that you write an exam for. The points you get for each course will depend on the percentage you score in that particular subject. The APS score is the total points you receive from each course.
Is it difficult to get into UCT?
That means even with outstanding results, the odds are only 1 out of 22 that you’ll be accepted. So it’s important to start looking at possible fields of study and necessary criteria in Grade 11 to make sure you’re on the right track.
How many points are needed to study medicine?
You must have at least 60% for English, Maths and Physics. Your average must be at least 75%. You have a guaranteed offer if your total points are higher than 880.
What happens if you don’t write NBT?
Registered applicants that do not report for the scheduled tests will be required to rebook the venue and date for the test and will be required to pay again in order to write the NBTs. Please note that you may not write only the MAT test.
Do you need NBT for UCT?
Do I need to take the NBTs to apply to UCT? Except for admission the programmes in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment, writing the NBTs is mandatory for all undergraduate applicants normally resident or at school in South Africa.
Is 37 a good APS score?
Some places are usually offered to students with an APS score of 38 – 44 with some extra conditions (see extended studies below). It is therefore very important to give full information when completing the application form as this is the information that the Dean will use for making a decision.
