What is FLL gracious Professionalism and Coopertition?
Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition It is described as a comfortable blend of knowledge, competition, and empathy. Coopertition is “displaying unqualified kindness and respect in the face of fierce competition.” Teams should help and respect each other, even as competitors.
What does FIRST in FLL stand for?
Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology
FIRST® is an acronym for For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology. It was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen to inspire youth to get involved in science and technology. Since then, FIRST® has grown to become an international presence for youth in science and technology.
What is the goal of FLL?
In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge and developing habits of learning. FIRST LEGO League’s three divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.

Gracious Professionalism is part of the ethos of FIRST. It’s a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. Gracious professionals learn and compete like crazy but treat one another with respect and kindness in the process.

Why is Fort Lauderdale called FLL?
FLL was originally established as the Merle Fogg Field on May 1, 1929. Passenger traffic reached 134,733 in 1959 and topped one million travelers a decade later in 1969. The airport was named for a World War I aviator who moved to Fort Lauderdale in the 1920s to begin his own flying service.
How does FLL work?
With the project, your team must first identify a specific problem within the scope of the challenge and theme for the year, and then create a unique, innovative solution to that problem. At a tournament, teams will reveal their solution in a 5 minute presentation to judges, followed by a 10 minute Q&A session.
How does FLL competition work?
The students work out a solution to a problem related to the theme (changes every year) and then meet for regional, national and international tournaments to compete, share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their robots. The FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Group.
