Anyone who is eligible for OPWDD services and enrolled in the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver can choose to self-direct their services.
What is considered self-direction?
Self-direction, sometimes called Consumer-direction or Participant-direction, gives you the freedom to choose the services and supports you need to live independently, in your own home. With self-direction, you determine the supports that help you reach your unique independent living goals.

With self-direction, you have the freedom to live in your home and community and decide who delivers your care, such as friends or approved family members. This is opposed to institutionalized care or having an agency send possibly different personnel every week.
