The lake is still open for camping but public lake access is restricted until further notice. The downstream Rio Chama Day-Use Area below the dam remains open for public use. It is advised to avoid all water recreation at the lake, including swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing and water skiing.

It is a clean campground with water and electric hookups on some sites. There are also shower facilities dotted throughout the campground. I would definitely recommend walking down to the base of the dam and along the lake. This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. We had a lovely trip.

This reservoir is operated by the federal government. For me, this was a good relaxation point. In normal times the lake would offer good camping, fishing, boating, and some swimming. But for now, services are somewhat muted and it’s probably best to just consider a short day trip and maybe a picnic and hike in the main facility area.
