Is Montezuma Castle worth seeing?
Not only is Tuzigoot close to Sedona, but it’s also close to a couple of other National Monuments: Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well. I’ll cover those in-depth in a subsequent post, but the short version is that Montezuma Castle is very worthwhile to visit, and Montezuma Well is interesting, but not much to see.

How long should I spend at Montezuma Castle?
There is a short and scenic loop that will take you close to a small river and a “Diorama” that will show what is behind the Monument facade. A short, mainly level and easy walk. over a year ago. If you read – then plan on a couple hours at least or you can breeze through in 45 minutes.
Is Montezuma Castle open during shutdown?
Montezuma Well and Montezuma Castle National Monument are open every day with the exception of December 25th and January 1st. Please note that the park gate is one mile from the Visitor Center, and closes at 4:45pm….Closures & Seasonal Exceptions.

Is Montezuma Well free?
Anyone who is age 15 or younger is free. Will work at Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments. Good for unlimited entry for seven (7) days. Can be upgraded to an Annual Pass or Lifetime Pass from seven (7) days of purchase.
Is Montezuma Castle open during Covid?
We are open seven days a week with the exception of Christmas Day and New Years Day.

7. It Is Easy To Visit Montezuma Castle National Monument. Montezuma Castle and Well are both easily accessible from Highway I-17, 95 miles north of Phoenix and 55 miles south of Flagstaff.
Where does Montezuma’s well water come from?
Geomorphology and Hydrology Montezuma Well—a collapsed carbonate caldron 368 feet across and 55 feet deep—lies at 3,618 feet elevation in the Verde Valley. Its waters likely are derived from the southern Colorado Plateau just to the north, and undoubtedly have a lengthy and circuitous flow path.
Why is it called Montezuma’s Well?
They irrigated their crops of corn, beans and squash from cracks in limestone rocks which carried water from Beaver Creek and the sinkhole we call Montezuma Well.
