Does the Nymr run all year?
The NYMR does run for most of the year. with differing coloured timetables, with fewer trains per day, later in the year. the thing to be careful of, is when your return train is due. With a restricted service, not all trains go through to Whitby from Grosmont.
When can Nymr reopen?
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has announced its plans to reopen after the coronavirus lockdown. The railway will reopen to visitors on Yorkshire Day – 1st August 2020. Steam trains will run seven days a week with four departures from Pickering to Levisham and return, and from Grosmont to Goathland and return.

Yes, all of our stations are open but we ask that you adhere to the Covid-19 measures we have in place. ✔ We recommend passengers wear a face-covering, whilst in buildings, on-board our services and when moving around the train/busy platforms (unless exempt).
Is the Steam train running from Whitby to Pickering?
We will be operating trains to and from Whitby every day, as well as intermediate services between Pickering and Grosmont. The railway will operate with Covid-19 mitigations in place, until the summer holidays, with pre-booked end to end services with a set departure and return time.
Can I get a steam train from Whitby?
Following a successful first weekend back, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has opened booking for their new service to Whitby. Anyone visiting the railway from 17th – 30th August 2020 is now able to book on the twice-daily ‘The Optimist’ service between Pickering and Whitby.

Are dogs allowed? Dogs are welcome on all our trains except Dining trains and some Special Events (see individual event pages for restrictions) provided they are kept off the seats, tables and not in first class. A dog ticket is £3.00 (Free if you are a Member) and have the same validity as the owner’s ticket.

Are there return tickets for North York Moors?
All tickets are return tickets, allowing passengers the option to disembark and walk the ‘Rail Trail’ or return to Grosmont. Those passengers travelling on the return service will have approx. 1hr wait for the service departure, having the option to walk into the village of Goathland. Facilities will be available at Grosmont only.

Passengers can book either a private compartment (max 6) or travel in a standard TSO Carriage (min 2/max 4) with social distancing measures in place. Passengers include children from 1 years old.
