What does a cat and Genny detect?
A Cable Locator (CAT) is used to detect buried services prior to carrying out any excavation work. For enhanced performance, we recommend using a Signal Generator (Genny) and Signal Clamp.
Can a cat and Genny pick up gas?
The Radio allows the CAT to detect VLF radio signals that metal cables and pipes re-radiated. As a result, we can locate and detect metal pipes and cables used for telephone lines, gas and water. The Genny mode allows the Cat to detect radiated tone from the Genny to a conductor that is buried.
How often should a CAT and Genny be calibrated?
It is recommended that cable locating equipment is serviced and calibrated every 12 months, to ensure they are fit for purpose and working to the latest software. This servicing will also ensure that users are fully up-to-speed with the technology.
