Compared to an earlier model like the 8N Ford, the Oliver Super 55 is a considerable upgrade. The live PTO is a big benefit. The overhead valve engine gives you more power (around 30 hp at the drawbar). The six-speed transmission is an improvement over the 8N’s basic four speeds, too.

Is an Oliver 1650 a good tractor?
The 1650 and 1750 are both great tractors, if it were me I would go with the 1650 as the 1750 is an extremely heavy tractor. Both are relatively reliable (that being said they were both built in the 60’s and you have no way of knowing how they were treated.

What happened to Oliver Tractor Company?
Oliver tractors were manufactured until 1976 when the last Oliver 2255 rolled down the assembly line. The silver-colored White tractors had replaced the Oliver tractor. Throughout the many mergers and corporation maneuvering, nothing remains of the original Oliver company, which began its legacy in South Bend, Indiana.
