What is solar daylighting?
Bring Natural daylight into your home with a Solatube Solar Daylighting System. Solatube Solar Daylighting Systems are engineered to efficiently capture the sun’s rays and pipe them into your home. The result is brighter, more colorful rooms that cost nothing to light.

What is daylight design?
Daylighting design needs to consider orientation and building site characteristics, facade and roof characteristics, size and placement of window openings, glazing and shading systems, and geometry and reflectance of interior surfaces. Good daylighting design ensures adequate light during daytime.
Do solar tubes add heat?
The more energy efficient of the two is the solar tube because light is captured and diffused into the home, unlike the direct sunlight of a skylight. This creates energy loss through heat gain, especially during the summer and in hot climates.
Are solar tubes worth it?
Solar tube lighting is a cost-effective alternative to skylights that offers bright, natural light with a simple installation process. Solar tube lighting is subtle, but it provides bright light. However, it doesn’t give you views of the sky, and it can’t be installed in every home.
What are daylighting strategies?
During the design process, the following design strategies should be understood and explored:
- Increase perimeter daylight zones-extend the perimeter footprint to maximize the usable daylighting area.
- Allow daylight penetration high in a space.
- Reflect daylight within a space to increase room brightness.
How many solar tubes do I need?
Much like with vertical windows and skylights, the more space you give daylight to get into your room, the better the results. As such, it would be wise to purchase the biggest size you can and try and aim for one or two sun tunnels to be installed in the centre of your room.
What is natural day light?
In simple terms, natural light is light that is generated naturally, the common source of which is the Sun. This is as opposed to artificial light, which is typically produced by electrical appliances such as lamps. More complex ‘daylight systems’ collect natural light and deliver it deep into the heart of buildings.
