The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) fishing season is open from the first Saturday in April and ends on November 30. Fishing is permitted on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from legal sunrise to sunset.

The Refuge is open sunrise to sunset daily. The Visitor Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. The trails and Wildlife Drive are open. No reservations are required.
What was the Rocky Mountain Arsenal used for?
Known today as an urban national wildlife refuge, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal traces its beginnings to the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, which brought the United States into World War II. The U.S. Army constructed the Arsenal in 1942 to develop chemical weapons as a deterrent against the Axis Powers.

Can you swim in gross reservoir?
Swimming, wading, scuba diving or other water activities are not allowed on the reservoir. You must stay on top of the water like kayaking, canoeing, in the winter ski touring or ice skating. On ice activities are legal and at your own risk.
Can you swim in Gold Camp reservoir?
Approximately 70 percent of the Springs’ drinking water passes through the Colorado Springs Utilities-owned reservoir, so avoid swimming, wading and water skiing. For those who prefer some exercise with their water feature, a trail follows the shoreline of the reservoir.

Please note the drive takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete, the speed limit is 30 miles per hour, and please stay in your vehicle in the bison enclosure, which is marked by signs and a cattle guard crossing. Hiking trails are also noted in the map.
