The foundation stone for this hospital was laid on the 3rd July 1863. It opened on the 27th April 1866. It was designed by the architect Edward Lower with advice from Florence Nightingale. The building cost £17,000 and was dedicated to the memory of Prince Albert.

When was St Luke’s Hospital in Guildford established?
The facility has its origins in the Guildford Poor Law Infirmary established in 1856. The infirmary was enlarged in 1870 and replaced by a new facility laid out in pavilion style in 1893. It became the Warren Road Hospital in 1930 and it joined the National Health Service as St Luke’s Hospital in 1948.
