Suntory released Hibiki 21 along with Hibiki 17 Year Blended Whisky (semi-discontinued) in 1989. As with most of Suntory’s elite products, Hibiki 21 is becoming increasingly rare due to overwhelming demand. If you can find it, prepare to fork over some serious cash!
Is Hibiki 21 good?
Hibiki 21 was named World’s Best Blended Whisky at the 2013 World Whiskies Awards and was awarded 96 points in Jim Murray’s 2014 Whisky Bible. Dr. Whisky says it’s ‘Unbelievably balanced, and dangerously drinkable’. So basically, it’s pretty good stuff!

Hibiki 21 is a good whisky; it’s just about everything you could want in a dram from Japan. Hibiki 21 is made using single malts from Hakushu and Yamazaki and grain whisky from chita that were aged in a combination of American (ex-bourbon), European (ex-Sherry) and Japanese (Mizunara) Oak.
What does hibiki taste like?
Tasting Notes Nose: Well-defined aromatics float among nutty, floral and earthy, with hints of light raw coconut, apricot, saline and chrysanthemum and just a hint of rosemary or sage. Palate: A medium-bodied whisky, it opens both sweet and nutty with a hint of almond, dried fruit and coconut.
