What is a weaving tension box?
The Leclerc Tension Box is used with the Sectional Warp Beam and fits any Leclerc floor loom and most other brands. The tension is adjustable, and it gives uniform tension on all warp ends as they are wound from the spool rack to the loom.
What is a tension box?
The AVL Tension Box is used for warping the sectional beam with short or long warps. Used in conjunction with a spool or cone rack and the AVL Track & Mount System, the tension box provides excellent tension for your warp as it winds onto the beam.
How do you use a warp tension box?
Mount the counter on a table or stool and place it between the spool rack and the tension box. Thread one of the warp yarns through the counter according to the instructions supplied with the counter. As you wind the warp onto the beam, keep a firm tension on the counting yarn.
What is warp tension?
Tension is applied to warp threads during weaving for two very obvious reasons, (i) to obtain a clear shed for the passage of the shuttle as it crosses the race to insert the weft between the warp threads. To weave loosely sett cloths, very little tension need be applied to the warp.
What is a sectional beam?
Sectional beams commonly come in one or two inch wide sections. The advantage to sectional beaming is that one can beam a very long, very wide warp without assistance. Sectional beaming is helpful for somewhat fine, somewhat fragile threads.
How tight should a warp be on the loom?
When warping your loom, you want to pull your warp thread across the loom with a tight even tension. Your tension should be similar to how a guitar is strung, so that the warp threads are taut, but have some bounce to them. If the warp threads are dipping down, then they are too loose.
How do you fix a loose warp?
While weaving, if the warp becomes too loose, you can insert a small wooden stick to tighten the tension. By inserting the small stick between two warp strands at the top of the loom, you can rotate it slowly and twist the yarns up. You will notice that the warp will tighten.
Why do sectionals warp?
In section warping, warp yarns are organized into yarn bands (sections), each having the same warp density as for the weaver’s beam. The warp yarns are wound onto the drum band by band until all yarns are wound onto the drum. Then, the yarn sheet is transferred from the drum onto the weaver’s beams.
What is a warp beam?
: a roll on which warp is wound for a loom.
How do you keep your edges straight in weaving?
10 Tips to weaving straight edges
- Tip 1: Check the warp tension.
- Tip 2: Use bobbins or shuttles that are not too full.
- Tip 3: Shorten project time.
- Tip 4: Pinch the edge of the previous weft yarn.
- Tip 5: Weave the weft yarn on a diagonal.
- Tip 6: Gently pull on the warp edges.
How do you fix uneven warp tension?
