What does RP address mean?
Abstract This memo defines an address allocation policy in which the address of the Rendezvous Point (RP) is encoded in an IPv6 multicast group address.
What is embedded RP?
The embedded RP feature that works for IPv6 multicast is a cool trick that embeds the IPv6 address of the RP within the IPv6 multicast group address. By doing this, multicast enabled routers can extract the RP address just by looking at the multicast group address and use it for a shared tree.
What is IP PIM RP address?
ip pim rp-address Configures a static IP address of a rendezvous point for a multicast group range or adds new multicast range to existing RP. The no form of the command removes the rendezvous point for a multicast group range or removes all configuration of the RP.
What is RP router?
Each any-source multicast (ASM) group has a shared tree through which receivers learn about new multicast sources and new receivers learn about all multicast sources. The rendezvous point (RP) router is the root of this shared tree and receives the multicast traffic from the source.
What is RP in sparse mode?
PIM Sparse Mode uses a special router called a Rendezvous Point (RP) to connect the flow source or multicast tree to the router next to the wannabe receiver. The RP is typically used only temporarily, as we’ll see below. There can be different RP’s for different multicast groups, which is one way to spread the load.
What is the purpose of a RP in PIM?
The RP router serves as the information exchange point for the other routers. All routers in a PIM domain must provide mapping to an RP router. It is the only router that needs to know the active sources for a domain—the other routers just need to know how to reach the RP.
What is the purpose of an RP in PIM?
When the RP receives the PIM join, it will start forwarding the multicast traffic. This concept of joining the RP is called the RPT (Root Path Tree) or shared distribution tree. The RP is the root of our tree which decides where to forward multicast traffic to.
What is anycast Gateway?
The anycast gateway IP address is set as the default gateway for all VMs on that virtual network. VMs on VNIs with anycast gateways use the same gateway information while behind different leaf pairs. When those VMs communicate with different networks, their local leaf switches always do the routing.
What is the difference between IGMP and PIM?
Important is the Note: To use PIM snooping, you must enable IGMP snooping on the switch. IGMP snooping restricts multicast traffic that exits through the LAN ports to which hosts are connected. IGMP snooping does not restrict traffic that exits through the LAN ports to which one or more multicast routers are connected.
What is anycast IPv6?
An IPv6 anycast address is an identifier for a set of interfaces (typically belonging to different nodes). A packet sent to an anycast address is delivered to one of the interfaces identified by that address (the nearest interface), according to the routing protocols’ measure of distance.
