Amikacin Sulphate 500mg Injection is an antibiotic used to prevent or treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. These may include infections of the urinary tract, bones, and joints, lungs (eg. pneumonia), brain, blood, among others. It is also used in hospitalized patients to prevent infections.
How do I reduce the side effects of amikacin?
Tell your doctor right away if you notice ringing/roaring sounds in the ears, hearing loss, dizziness, or an unusual decrease in the amount of your urine. Careful monitoring by your doctor will reduce the risk of these side effects.
How long is amikacin used for?
The recommended dose in prematures is 7.5 mg/kg in every 12 hours (see sections 4.4 and 5.2). The usual duration of treatment is 7 to 10 days. The total daily dose by all routes of administration should not exceed 15-20 mg/kg/day.
