Can you use Behr deck over on new wood?
Hi Lance, Yes, the new wood still needs to be prepped according to label instructions. We do not recommend pressure washing, but definitely clean the new pressure treated wood before applying DECKOVER.
Is Behr deck over supposed to be thick?
It is supposed to be thick – that is the advantage of using it. I have heavy traffic on my deck with dogs and kids and I was frustrated having to stain every year.

Use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM NO. 64 Wood Stain & Finish Stripper (must be followed by NO. 63) to remove all loose wood fibers, peeling paint/stain or deteriorated coatings prior to application of DeckOver. On new wood, use NO. 63 to remove mill glaze and open the pores of the wood. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry before coating.
