Why do Contigo mugs leak?
Moisture was getting caught between the mug’s layers, causing leaks. The seal on the top of the mug degrades, letting liquid in between the double-lining of the mug. This is accompanied by a hissing sound, as hot water seeps into the mug.

How do you get the smell out of a Contigo lid?
If the lid has an open/close mechanism, set it to “open.” Avoid cleansers or anything chlorine-based, but if your lid is particularly stinky, you can soak it in a warm water-baking soda solution for a couple hours instead. Rinse under warm water, opening and closing the seal to ensure all the soap gets washed away.
