What companies accept hair for donation?
Three major national organizations currently take hair donations — Locks of Love, Wigs for Kids, and Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Each charity has different requirements you need to observe when growing and preparing your hair donation.

How many inches does the ponytail need to be? Donated hair must be a minimum of 8 inches long (measured from just above the elastic band of the ponytail to the ends).
Can I donate 6 inches of hair?
It’s important to follow an organization’s donation requirements if you want your hair to be used. All of them have a minimum length of hair that can be donated, commonly ranging from 8 inches to 14 inches. If you have layered hair, the shortest layer often needs to meet the minimum length requirement.

Place your hair (with the elastic still around it) in a clean resealable bag. Label it with your name, address, and contact information. Wavy or curly hair is generally allowed, but make sure to check in with your chosen organization. Treated hair can still be accepted but it’s generally discouraged.

Can I donate grey hair, curly hair or layered hair? If your hair is totally grey or has just one or two grey hairs that can be easily removed, we can accept it. You can donate layered hair as long as the majority of the layers are roughly 30cm long.

We are accepting hair donations even during the COVID-19 pandemic. You are welcome to visit our Wellness Center in St. Clair Shores, MI to drop off your hair donation. We also have a convenient drop-box located at our front door for after hours use. If you live out of state, you are welcome to mail your hair.
