- Sit down.

What is the mechanism of action of GTN?
Glyceryl Trinitrate is a vasodilating agent. Its principle pharmacological action is the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle. Glycerol Trinitrate produces, in a dose related manner, dilation of both arterial and venous beds.

Nitrates. Glyceryl trinitrate (or nitroglycerin) undergoes extensive hepatic presystemic metabolism when given orally, and is therefore usually given by the sublingual route, by which it is well absorbed and rapidly taken up into the circulation.
