Japanese tissue is made with plant fibers indigenous to the region and not used in tissue made in the USA. All sheets exhibit the same characteristic of a shiny side and a dull side. The tissue can be applied wet due to having excellent wet strength as well as good grain running parallel to the long side of the sheet.
How do I attach tissue to balsa model?
There are Lots of methods for attaching tissue to the balsa. One method is to use a glue stick. PVA glue thinned down with water 50/50 is also a good way to go about securing the covering. Simply ‘outline’ the frame by painting the edges with the glue.

Covering Steps
- Sand the airframe to perfection.
- Clean the workbench and airplane parts with a vacuum.
- Seal the covering all the way around after trimming with the iron set at 225°.
- Use a heat gun to shrink the covering.
- Iron the covering to the wood with the iron set at 350° using an iron sock.
- Apply any graphics.
