Did Nietzsche support nihilism?
Among philosophers, Friedrich Nietzsche is most often associated with nihilism. For Nietzsche, there is no objective order or structure in the world except what we give it. Penetrating the façades buttressing convictions, the nihilist discovers that all values are baseless and that reason is impotent.
Was Nietzsche not a nihilist?
Despite being regarded as the father of nihilism, he wasn’t really a nihilist. However, Nietzsche distinguishes between on the one hand passive nihilism – what he characterises as surrendering to default morality, be it Christian or consumerist – and on the other hand active nihilism.
