What is the difference between THX and Dolby?
THX modes do not encode or decode audio—instead, they process the sound after it has been decoded by the Dolby Digital, DTS, or any other codec. For instance, THX Cinema Mode does not override material that was encoded with Dolby Digital.
Is THX outdated?
THX certification is outdated, and certainly doesn’t warrant the hefty license fee. The royalty cost of THX is very high, and like those royalties for Audyssey a brand must make a decision for its ROI.. Regarding the point that many brands far exceed THX standards…
Why is Denon not THX certified?
THX Select is a low-cost variant, intended for smaller premises. Equivalent circuits for THX Re-Equilization (Cinema EQ), Bass Management and Timbre Matching (Room EQ). Since it makes little sense from our point of view to invest in this at addittional cost we decided to forego this certification.
Is THX any good?
THX isn’t good or bad. It’s really just marketing. They did a lot to really help the industry but the value in consumer electronics I don’t think is what it used to be when it started because of just better quality products to begin with.
Is THX a Dolby?
The THX system is not a recording technology and it does not specify a sound recording format: all sound formats, whether digital (Dolby Digital, DTS, SDDS) or analog (Dolby Stereo, Ultra Stereo), can be “shown in THX”. THX is a quality assurance system….THX.

Does THX certified matter?
Many films and video games carry the THX brand and logo to prove their worth as high-quality audio or video sources. However, THX Certification is most important for the speaker system that produces the sound because THX source audio matters only when it is played on a system capable of reproducing it.
