To be eligible for a scholarship, all applicants must: (1) Be a U.S. citizen (either U.S. born or naturalized) or U.S. national. To be eligible for an NHSC scholarship, applicants must present proof of U.S. citizenship or status as a U.S. national.

How many people apply for the NHSC Scholarship?
The NHSC scholarship application process is highly competitive. Each year, there are more than 1,800 applications from hundreds of schools from across the country. Approximately 10 percent of the applicants receive the scholarship award.
How many people get NHSC?
Seventeen million people receive care from more than 16,000 clinicians serving at NHSC-approved sites in urban, rural, and tribal communities. Since the NHSC began, more than 63,000 primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health professionals have served.
Can I do NHSC and PSLF?
If you qualified for both programs simultaneously, after two years of NHSC, you could potentially get $50,000 in assistance. This only counts as one payment, so you need another 119 payments to be eligible for PSLF.
