What age can you start little Nippers?
A child may join nippers as soon as they turn five years of age. A child who reaches five years of age after 30 September may join nippers at that time; however, this child will be required to stay in the U6 nippers age group again the following season.
What do little Nippers do?
Nippers are young surf lifesavers, usually aged between 5 and 14 years old, in clubs across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Unlike senior surf lifesavers, the majority of them do not patrol the beaches. The focus for Nippers tends to be on fun, and surf awareness. Nippers learn about safety at the beach.
Are Nippers safe?
WSLSC has a strict policy that only proficient SRC and Bronze Medallion holders may swim with Nippers. The Club adheres to a strict Water Safety policy and implements a Water Safety : Nipper ratio depending on each water based activity, ie ocean swim and boards, and the surf conditions at the time.
