What can you not take with Xeloda?
Do not take aspirin (salicylic acid), non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) such as Motrin®, Aleve®, Advil®, etc. as these can all increase the risk of bleeding. Unless your healthcare team tells you otherwise, you may take acetaminophen (Tylenol).
Can you drink alcohol while taking Xeloda?
DO NOT smoke or drink alcohol while on treatment without talking to your health care team first. Smoking and drinking can make side effects worse and make your treatment not work as well.
How long does it take for Xeloda to leave your system?
The chemotherapy itself stays in the body within 2 -3 days of treatment but there are short-term and long-term side effects that patients may experience. Not all patients will experience all side effects but many will experience at least a few.
How do you reduce the side effects of Xeloda?
Eating several small meals, not eating before treatment, or limiting activity may help lessen some of these effects. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medication. Drink plenty of fluids unless directed otherwise.
How successful is Xeloda?
Xeloda also improved overall survival: 89.2% of the women treated with Xeloda were alive. 83.9% of the women who didn’t get chemotherapy were alive.
Is there hair loss with Xeloda?
Hair loss. When used on its own, capecitabine occasionally causes some temporary hair thinning. It very rarely causes complete hair loss. If capecitabine is taken in combination with another chemotherapy drug, most people will lose all their hair including eyebrows, eyelashes and body hair.
Can I drink coffee during chemo?
Avoid caffeine as it acts as a diuretic and draws water out of your cells, causing you to urinate more fluid than you are consuming. Stay away from strong smelling foods to avoid aggravating any disorders of taste.
How bad is Xeloda?
XELODA can cause serious skin reactions that may lead to death. Tell your doctor right away if you develop a skin rash, blisters and peeling of your skin. Your doctor may tell you to stop taking XELODA if you have a serious skin reaction. Do not take XELODA again if this happens.

Common side effects of Xeloda include: anemia, diarrhea, hyperbilirubinemia, increased serum alkaline phosphatase, increased serum transaminases, nausea, neutropenia, palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia, paresthesia, stomatitis, thrombocytopenia, and vomiting.
