It’s a short walk but has quite a steep gradient, especially at the start. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete the looped route if you’re taking it steady, admiring the views of Ullswater and taking photos next to the tallest trig you’ve ever seen.

You can park by Martindale church (free but not a huge car park) or in Pooley/Glenridding/Aira force and then take one of the steamers to Howtown to walk up Hallin Fell – it’s practically a 360 panorama from the top, well worth the climb on a clear day.
