What is exhaust rasp?
Rasp is when the sound inside the exhaust system matches the resonant frequency of the system. It causes a massive amplification and change in tone, typically unpleasant.
Do mufflers reduce rasp?
To help cancel out most of the frequencies of the engine internals during the range of operation at which the engine is loudest. In many cases, resonators are added in addition to mufflers to luxury cars as a way to make the car quieter overall. Luckily, installing an exhaust resonator can assist in reducing the rasp.
How do I make my exhaust tone deeper?
Start the engine, and walk around the vehicle while someone revs it up, so you can hear how it sounds. If you want it a bit deeper, you can widen the cut to about a third of the pipe’s circumference. Additional cuts, spaced about four inches apart, will add depth and volume to the sound.
What causes raspy exhaust?
This is caused by the increased flow of the exhaust gases. A raspy sound may emit from your performance muffler from time to time. With these types of mufflers, the exhaust will go straight through your pipe. This pipe is perforated with holes to allow for this.
