Is nationality checking service still available?
We no longer provide a nationality checking service. From 1 January 2019, all nationality checking is done by the UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service (UKVCAS) rather than local councils.
How do I check if someone is a British citizen?
How do I know whether my British parent is a Citizen or not? You need to look at your parent’s passport to see what it says on it. Check whether or not the passport says “citizen” and, if it doesn’t, note the code that is listed on the passport. That code will tell you the type of nationality.

How can I check someone’s citizenship status?
Contact the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services at (800) 375-5283. Request to speak to an officer, and provide the name of the individual and her birth date to learn her citizenship status. The officer may ask why you are searching for this information.
Is the Birmingham City Council nationality checking service still available?
Birmingham City Council has ceased to provide the Nationality Checking Service and customers can now apply online via GOV.UK.
