Is TR19 the law?
BESA originally introduced the guidelines in 2005 for commercial kitchens and whilst it is not currently a legal requirement, TR19 and its predecessors have been widely accepted within the building servicers sector and by the UK insurance industry as the standard to which ventilation systems should be cleaned.
How often does kitchen ductwork need to be cleaned?
Ideally, you should measure the rate of build up of grease on the internal surfaces of ductwork. If this is not possible, your cleaning work should be planned around the level of use: Heavy use (12-16 hours per day) – clean every three months. Moderate use (6-12 hours per day) – clean every six months.

Failure to do so will result in a build up of grease causing the system to become inefficient and and a major fire risk.
What is dw144?
