How do you become a crew member on RNLI lifeboat?
Our crew members need to:
- be over 17 years old (with the permission of your parents) or over 18.
- be under 55 years old (inshore lifeboat crew) or 65 (all-weather lifeboat crew)
- complete a health assessment, including an eyesight test.
- be physically fit.
- live and/or work close to a lifeboat station.

How do you join lifeboats?
Get Minecraft PE.

- We use Xbox Live usernames for logging into Lifeboat. Please create an account here.
- After you have installed Minecraft, go into the app’s settings and sign in to Xbox Live. You are now ready to join Lifeboat!

How long is RNLI training?
After 6 months of regular training, and getting to know and work with the crew, trainees may, depending on their progress, attend the Trainee Crew course at RNLI College in Poole, Dorset. After completing their 12-month probationary period and assessments, trainees become fully fledged crew members.
Are all RNLI crew volunteers?
Most lifeboat crew members are volunteers. We have 5,700 crew members and 3,500 shore crew (including station management) from all walks of life, around the UK and Ireland, around 11% of whom are women.

How old do you have to be to donate to the RNLI?

Can you go to sea without an RNLI certificate?
Due to the extreme conditions of going to sea, you are unlikely to be issued with an RNLI medical certificate if: you have any other condition which would/could cause problems regarding your fitness to navigate/crew a vessel you suffer from any condition that may affect bone strength or are on oral steroids.
