What is Xypex Concentrate?
Xypex Concentrate is the most chemically active product within the Xypex Crystalline Waterproofing System. When mixed with water, this light grey powder is applied as a cementitious slurry coat to above-grade or below-grade concrete, either as a single coat or as the first of a two-coat application.
How does Xypex work?
Xypex prevents the penetration of water and other liquids from any direction by causing a catalytic reaction that produces a non-soluble crystalline formation within the pores and capillary tracts of concrete and cement-based materials.
What is crystalline waterproofing?
Crystalline waterproofing is a technology that involves the development of crystals to help achieve watertight concrete structures. | Penetrates concrete, seals capillaries & hairline cracks, & remains waterproof even if surfaces are damaged.
How do you use Xypex concentrate?
Using a trowel, mix one part clean water with six parts Xypex Concentrate powder by volume for 10 – 15 seconds. Lumps should be present in this mixture. Do not mix more than can be applied in 20 minutes.
What is crystalline technology?
Crystalline Technology waterproofs and improves the durability of concrete structures by filling and plugging the pores, capillaries and micro-cracks with a non-soluble, highly resistant crystalline formation.
Can I paint over Xypex?
Yes. In most circumstances paint, epoxy coatings, cement parge coats, plaster and stucco can be applied over a Xypex coating. For further information concerning the interface of the Xypex coating with paint and other finishing materials, consult with a Xypex Technical Services Representative.
How do you mix Thoroseal?
Mix the Thorseal® powder using a solution consisting of ACRYL 60 diluted with water, usually 1 part ACRYL® 60 to 3 parts clean water. For improved curing, better physical properties and improved bonding capability in extreme environments or on dense or questionable surfaces, reduce the dilution ratio to 1:2 or 1:1.
What’s the best way to use xypex concentrate?
1. Apply slurry coat of Xypex Concentrate to slot in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions or recommendations. 2. While slurry coat is still tacky, fill slot with Xypex Concentrate Dry-Pac. 3. Compact tightly using pneumatic packer or hammer and block. 4.
What is the coverage rate for xypex additives?
Wet Dry-Pac surface lightly with water, then apply a slurry coat of Xypex Concentrate at a coverage rate of 1.5 – 2 lb./sq.yd. (0.8 – 1 kg/m 2) over sealing strip and extending to 6″ (150 mm) on either side. Note: For further information, see Xypex Schematic Drawings for standard construction joint details.
How big should xypex coating be on concrete?
The Xypex coating must be uniformly applied and should be just under 1/16” (1.25 mm) thick. Application rates and locations shall be as indicated in the drawings and in accordance with manufacturer’s product data. When brushing, work slurry well into surface of the concrete, filling surface pores and hairline cracks.
What is the CSI format for xypex specification?
This section of the Xypex Specification utilizes the Section Format™ of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Manual of Practice®. What is CSI Format? CSI Format provides a uniform approach to organizing specification text by establishing a structure consisting of three primary Parts: General, Products, and Execution.
