Granted, it isn’t that such pistols are unsafe, they aren’t – if handled properly. However, on the basis of the safety mechanisms in place on a cocked and locked 1911… cocked and locked carry is actually one of the safest ways to carry a pistol.
Do you carry locked and loaded?

Condition 4 – Chamber is empty; hammer down; NO magazine in the gun.
How does a cocked and locked gun work?
People deal with this in one of three ways: cocked and locked (condition 1), or they chamber a round and carefully lower the hammer (condition 2) so they have to thumb cock the gun to fire it, or they carry it with an empty chamber and rack the slide when they bring it into action (condition 3).
