What is hyoscine butylbromide injection used for?
Hyoscine butylbromide injection is normally prescribed to treat smooth muscle spasm, usually in the gut or bowel (‘colicky pain’). In palliative care, it is also prescribed to dry excessive chest secretions in end of life care and to treat inoperable bowel obstruction when colicky pain or vomiting is troublesome.
How much Buscopan Can I give my dog?
Dosage and Administration Administer a single injection of 0.3 mg/kg body weight (0.14 mg/lb), slowly IV. This is equivalent to 30 mg N-butylscopolammonium bromide per 100 kg (220 pounds) bodyweight or 1.5 mL of BUSCOPAN per 100 kg (220 pounds) bodyweight.
How do you give a hyoscine injection?
One ampoule (20 mg) intramuscularly or intravenously, repeated after half an hour if necessary. Intravenous injection should be performed ‘slowly’ (in rare cases a marked drop in blood pressure and even shock may be produced by Buscopan). When used in endoscopy this dose may need to be repeated more frequently.

Hyoscine hydrobromide is rapidly absorbed after intramuscular or subcutaneous administration. It is reported to cross the placenta, and also crosses the blood brain barrier. After intramuscular administration, the onset of action is approximately 30 minutes and the duration of action is approximately 4 hours.
