Hyoscine butylbromide injection is normally prescribed to treat smooth muscle spasm, usually in the gut or bowel (‘colicky pain’). In palliative care, it is also prescribed to dry excessive chest secretions in end of life care and to treat inoperable bowel obstruction when colicky pain or vomiting is troublesome.
