How does an automatic condensate pump work?
Designed to run intermittently, condensate pumps include a collection tank where condensate (captured condensed liquid) can accumulate. When the liquid in the tank reaches a designated level a float switch activates the pump. As liquid rises to the designated first stage, the pump is activated.
Does a condensate pump run all the time?
Condensate Pump Floats When the float reaches a certain point, a switch is triggered which sends the water outside or to a drain. If that float gets hung when the water level rises and can’t slip back down into its natural position, the condensate pump will run continuously.
How do you turn off a condensate pump?
All condensate pumps have a float, which is located at the top of the pump. This small piece can sometimes become stuck and cause the pump to shut off. If the float is stuck, simply tap on it until it can move freely again.
Can you unplug a condensate pump?
It is very important before cleaning your condensate pump to unplug it or turn off the power at the main breaker box. Do not run the HVAC system while the pump is disconnected. Remove the pump, and place it in a suitable work area.
