Are there JPs at Service NSW?
Justices of the Peace are still serving the NSW community, however services are changing to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of scheduled JP services are no longer operational. This may include services at your local council, court, library, chemist, post office or police station.
What legal action can be taken against a JP?
A person who suffers loss or damage because a JP did not take reasonable care may have cause to take legal action against the JP. An example of such a case is outlined in Section 4.3. 2 on page 56. The suggested procedures and other guidance in this handbook have been developed to assist you to meet your duty of care.

Are there any document signing stations in Victoria?
The RVAHJ and its members originally established a number of Document Signing Stations (DSS) through out Victoria; and which have been and continued to be expanded with the ongoing service from all Justices. The DOJ&R and HJO have also contributed by supporting the stations and Justices so as to continue in providing services to the general public.

The stations are located in public places such as police stations, libraries and other community locations. How does a Justice of the peace resign?
Ordinarily, the justice is served with a notice of the charge or charges and is given an opportunity to be heard before she or he is removed. If a justice of the peace wishes to resign, he or she must present a letter of resignation to the appropriate official; once the resignation is accepted, it cannot be withdrawn.
Is the Justice of the Peace an officer of the US?
In some districts, such as the District of Columbia, justices of the peace are considered officers of the United States. In other regions, their jurisdiction is limited to a state, city, precinct, county, or township.
