The term “trans Golgi network” (TGN) is used for complex and dynamic membrane compartments located at the trans Golgi side (cf. Figs. 33–35, 48). Because of its complexity and highly dynamic behaviour, the TGN belongs to the most interesting but also enigmatic and challenging structures of the cell.
