What is a CIHR grant?
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is Canada’s federal funding agency for health research. Composed of 13 Institutes, we collaborate with partners and researchers to support the discoveries and innovations that improve our health and strengthen our health care system.
How does the Canadian Institute of health research CIHR direct funds?
In most cases, CIHR provides funds directly to the institution/organization with which the Nominated Principal Applicant is affiliated, usually as an employee. How do I get a CIHR PIN?
To register for a CIHR PIN:
- Log into your ResearchNet Account;
- Select your name from the top right hand side of the screen;
- Select “Register for a CIHR PIN” from the drop-down menu; and.
- Complete and submit the on-line form that appears on the screen.
Who can apply for CIHR funding?
3.1 Nominated Principal Applicant Certain categories of individuals and organizations are eligible to apply for CIHR grants and awards. Eligible individuals include but are not limited to researchers, knowledge users, scholars, health professionals, undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
Where do I find my CIHR PIN?
Find your CIHR PIN at any time: You can find your CIHR PIN any time by logging into your ResearchNet Account, selecting your name from the top right of your screen, and selecting Account Settings from the drop-down menu that appears.
When do you need to submit an application for CIHR?
It is the responsibility of the applicants to ensure that their applications are complete prior to their submission to CIHR. Applications must be submitted on or prior to the deadline posted on ResearchNet. This means that the “Consent and Submit” section of the application must be completed on or before the deadline.

How to write a research proposal for CIHR?
Title: Provide a title for your proposal. Your title is the way that CIHR identifies your research proposal. For this reason you cannot edit your title once submitted. Lay Title: Provide a title for your project that is in a language clear to members of the general public.
What are the instructions for a project grant?
Project Grant: Application Instructions When preparing your application, CIHR expects that you will adhere to all applicable instructions and requirements. This includes font sizes, spacing, page limits etc. Failure to comply with these requirements may negatively impact the evaluation of the application and could lead to withdrawal.
