What is a Qmx clip?
The GMK QMX clips are a new product that essentially silence the “Clack” you get when bottoming out on a keyboard. They are only compatible with PCB mounted keyboards, not plate mounted keyboards.
What is a plate mount switch?
Plate-mounting involves installing the switches to a metal plate that is above the PCB. The switches are then soldered to the PCB after being placed in the metal plate. The plate allows the keyboard to feel more reinforced and stable with a heavier feel.

What is the difference between plate mount and PCB mount switches?
The only difference between PCB mounted switches and plate mounted switches is that PCB mounted switches has two extra plastic prongs to help them hold on to the PCB better. Some PCBs have holes for these prongs, some PCBs don’t.
Are plate mounted stabilizers good?
Plate-mounted stabilizers are considered the least effective mounting style as they tend to rattle more and vibrate with the aluminum plate when typing. It’s possible to improve these stabilizers by modding them which we’ll get into later. The stabilizers attach by clipping/snapping into the metal plate.

Hot-swappable keyboards typically come in a 5-pin or 3-pin design as well. With a 5-pin design, all switches will be compatible with the keyboard, regardless of if the switches are 3-pin or 5-pin.
Are screw in stabilizers better than plate mount?
They are better than plate-mounted, but not quite as effective as screw-in stabilizers. Screw-in stabilizers are usually a better option than snap-in as they vibrate less and are more secure. The only situation where we would recommend this stabilizer type is if you can’t find a keyboard with screw-in stabilizers.
Can you use screw in stabilizers on a plate mount PCB?
Screw-in stabilizers mount directly into the PCB and are attached with screws. This mounting style is considered the best because the stabilizers are much more secure and will vibrate less.
What is the point of QMK?
QMK Firmware fills the role of that software, detecting button presses and passing that information on to the host computer. When you build your custom keymap, you are creating an executable program for your keyboard. QMK tries to put a lot of power into your hands by making easy things easy, and hard things possible.
