Is Dana 44 better than 30?
The only difference between the JK Dana 30 and Dana 44 is ring gear size, electronic locker, and bigger shafts. You’re better off just starting with an aftermarket Dana 44 that is a “true 44”. With the cost difference between a base Wrangler and a Rubicon, you could get aftermarket Dana 60 axles with lockers.
Can a Dana 30 handle a locker?
No problem with up to 33’s with a locker, replacement 4340 alloy axle shafts just become a good upgrade if you get to 35’s. A lunchbox locker like an Aussie lunchbox locker works extremely well in a Dana 30 and is a very common upgrade. Truetracs are nearly useless for offroading, they barely help at all.
