What are slice valves?
Slice valves operate with a sliding gate that slices through the water flow. The operator pushes a plunger-type handle that pushes the gate through the opening. This gate fits into the flanges within the frame of the valve that form seals preventing the flow of liquid through the valve.
What is a hot tub slice valve?
Hot tub gate valves or slice valves, are installed in some spas to facilitate servicing the spa without needing to drain it. Be sure the valve is all the way open when servicing is completed to assure optimal flow of water through the spa plumbing system.
Where do hot tubs usually leak?
Much more common are leaks on the backside of spa jets, caused by loose locknuts or deteriorated spa jet gaskets on the inside of the spa. Spa leaks occur in other gasketed equipment – anything with o-rings and gaskets. This includes things like skimmers, lights, pumps, unions, chlorinators and ozonators.
Why do hot tubs use gate valves?
Gate valves allow you to easily remove or replace your spa equipment without the time and cost of draining, refilling and re-heating your spa water. And in some spas you need gate valves just to change the spa filter. On older spas gate valves tend to wear out.

Are there any PVC gate valves that work?
We do not sell PVC gate valves due to their unreliability. If you must have a gate style type of valve – we recommend brass/bronze gate valves or plastic slice gate valves. Please note: color of handle may vary. Order 10, 25, 50, or more of the same size valve for additional savings!

Can you use silicone on a PVC ball valve?
We have found that most silicones will actually damage the plastic. If all else fails and you can’t “live with” how hard it is to turn your large ball valve, try Super Lube.
Is it easy to turn large plastic valve?
When you first get your large valve, you will note how hard it is to turn. Once it is installed on pipe and has water (clean water only) in it, you will find that it will be somewhat easier to turn. But large plastic ball valves are simply not easy to turn.
