As a result of the Syrian crisis, we now assist the largest number of registered refugees and asylum-seekers in history. In response to the needs of the large influx, UNHCR set up a field office in Alexandria in December 2013.

Why is Egypt’s population increasing?
The Population of Egypt Will Continue to Grow for Most of the Twenty-First Century. This increase will occur for two reasons: fertility rates are still high in many parts of Egypt, and momentum will cause the population to continue to increase even after fertility rates reach replacement level.
