What is a Metabones adapter?
As we reported recently, the Speed Booster is an adapter that allows for a full frame lens to be mounted on APS-C or Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. There are two reasons why this is very big news, and both revolve around the optics inside the adapter.
Does autofocus work with Metabones?
Metabones® has already added fast EF lens autofocus to its Micro Four Thirds Mount Speed Boosters® and Smart Adapters™ last year.
How do I update Metabones V firmware?
To update, follow the directions on the screen, which may advise you to plug in the micro USB 2.0 cable again while pushing and holding down the WO button on the Speed Booster or Smart Adapter. Metabones App will detect the adapter and display the “Update” button. Click “Update”.
Does Metabones change focal length?
A few days ago I learned about the Metabones Speed Booster. The EF to NEX Speed Booster, for example, changes the effective focal length x 0.71, and increases the maximum aperture by 1 stop. A Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens effectively becomes a 35.5mm f/0.9 NEX lens, for example.
Can I use Sony Lens on Canon?
This Pro Lens Adapter from Fotodiox enables the use of your Sony A lenses on Canon EF-mount DSLR cameras. Additionally, benefitting working with lenses that lack an aperture ring, this adapter also features a built-in iris control to adjust the amount of light let into the camera.
How do Metabones adapters work?
A Metabones adaptor connects a camera to a lens that has an aperture ring on it – these are usually older manual focus lenses. Modern autofocus lenses that do not have an aperture ring and require aperture changes to be made in-camera are not compatible with a Metabones regular adaptor.
Where is Metabones made?
Metabones has its engineering in Vancouver, Canada and its headquarters in Hong Kong, with its own production facilities in China. As the leading mount adapter specialist, Metabones is known for its unique designs, workmanship and reliability.
How do you calibrate Metabones?
To manually calibrate the lens, follow these simple steps.
- Turn on your camera.
- Attach lens to Metabones Speed Booster / Smart Adapter and attach adapter to camera.
- Point at a smooth surface with no contrast, and let autofocus hunt one round-trip between infinity and closest focusing distance.
What is Ibis on Metabones?
User may choose between lens optical image stabilization (OIS) and in-body image stabilization (IBIS) using the lens’ IS switch (except for first-generation Tamron VC lenses). If the lens’ IS switch is ON, lens OIS is used and IBIS is turned off automatically. If lens’ IS switch is OFF, IBIS is used instead.
What does a Metabones Speedbooster do?
Speed Booster® physically reduces focal length and increases maximum aperture (smaller f-number) of the lens. The “35mm equivalent focal length” is not a focal length at all, but a measure of field of view (FoV).
Are Sony lenses cheaper than Canon?
As you can see, when factoring in CPW, Canon lenses are almost 25% cheaper than Sony’s similar lenses. And if you factor out the 16-35 f/2.8 lenses and the 70-300 lenses (are “G” and “L” lenses comparable?), the price difference is even larger. CPW also offers deals on camera bodies and flashes as well.
Is the Metabones Mark I compatible with Sony A9?
There is an AF accuracy issue when using AF-S or DMF on Sony A9 and telephoto lenses with Metabones in “Advanced” mode, which affects this and all previous firmware versions. Green mode, which is set by default on Sony A9, is not affected (except for the original Smart Adapter Mark I, which does not support “Green” mode).
What makes the Metabones smart adapter TM so special?
Our new Smart Adapter TM series of products add industry-leading electronic interfacing technology from Canada, with true electronic control of the lens’ aperture directly from the camera body. Both camera-side and lens-side of the adapter are made of brass, precision-machined and plated with chromium.
What’s the difference between New Mark IV and old Mark IV?
Enhancement on new MARK IV (MB_EF-E-BT4) vs. old MARK IV (MB_EF-E-BM4): The inner opening is lined with flocking material coating. This will further reduce internal reflection when a tilt-shift (TS) lens is used. Disclaimer: we are NOT licensed, approved or endorsed by Sony or Canon.
Why do you need a Metabones lens adapter?
Metabones uses matte-black treatment to keep internal reflection to a minimum in order to maintain the maximum optical quality possible with the lens. All Metabones Adapters follow this tradition of uncompromising precision, robust build quality and outstanding finish.
