How do commercial breweries clean kegs?
Cleaning kegs in breweries has traditionally been accomplished by using hot water and alkaline liquid cleaning solutions comprised of sodium and or potassium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) utilize extremely high (12-14) pH to hydrolyze (break down) soil to remove it.
How do you clean a 15.5 gallon keg?

- Relieve pressure.
- Remove spear.
- Empty keg.
- Rinse with water.
- Put 3 gallons water in the keg.
- Place the keg on your patio burner and bring to a boil for 15 minutes.
- Turn off burner.
- Add dishwasher detergent.
What is a Sanke keg?
Sanke also called Sankey is a type of beer keg. Sanke kegs have a single valve on the top of them that allows for both beer and gas to pass-through. The gas flows to the top portion of the keg pushing the beer up through the spear on the bottom and out for dispensing.
How long do kegs stay sanitized?
A sealed keg should stay sanitized indefinitely. Go nuts. If you leave some sanitizer in there, it will stay sanitized until a while after the sanitizer becomes ineffective which is a very long time for Starsan in a sealed keg.
How do you Sterilise a keg?
After the keg is clean, pour a gallon of clean water into the keg and add a no-rinse sanitizer such as StarSan. Shake the sanitizer around making sure to cover the entire inside surface. Wait for 3-5 minutes for the sanitizer to work. Place the gas quick connect from the CO2 regulator onto the gas “IN” side of the keg.
