How does a push button toilet flush mechanism work?
The flush valve’s job is to rush water from the cistern into the toilet bowl to wash away waste. So simply put, you push the flush button, the connecting cable pulls up the flush valve, the water is forced out of the cistern and into the toilet bowl, and then the valve drops back down.

Why is my push button toilet running?
The problem may be that your toilet’s water supply is filling the tank too quickly to allow the close-off float to trigger, resulting in an endlessly running toilet. If the water is flowing back into the tank too quickly, then the float that triggers the shut-off valve might never reach its designated shut-off point.
