What is an income survey?
An income survey is a study of the income levels of a community and its residents. Using a statistically sound data-collection methodology, community development professionals collect information from residents (either from all residents in very small communities, or a cross-section of residents in larger communities).
What happens if I don’t answer the American Community Survey?
Those who decline to complete the survey may receive visits to their homes from Census Bureau personnel. Because it is a mandatory survey, it is governed by federal laws that could impose a fine of as much as $5,000 for refusing to participate. To date, no person has been prosecuted for refusing to answer the ACS.

The SIPP gathers information from a series of panels, each with 14,000 to 37,000 households. The SIPP sample is a multistage-stratified sample of the U.S. civilian non-institutionalized population. The respondents are all household members 15 years or older. Each wave of interviews lasts four months.
