How to get to Maspie Den waterfall?
- From the car park head up the estate road, keeping the stables building on your right.
- Ignore the wooden steps to your left.
- You now follow this path all the way to the top of Maspie Den, crossing the burn several times via a series of small bridges.
- Be brave, walk into the undercut and stand behind the waterfall.
How long is Knox Pulpit walk?
At the point where the new path crosses over the burn you have the choice of crossing over to do a 4.5 mile walk or stay on the same side and follow an old unsurfaced path further up into the glen for a 5.5 mile walk. If you choose the latter you will walk past John Knox’s Pulpit.

How long does it take to climb Largo law?
The walking route itself is quite straightforward and well signed, and is commenced by proceeding through a ‘kissing gate’ from the car park. Total return distance we estimate to be about 2 miles, and we reckon should take the average person around 2 hours to complete.
Why is it called John Knox’s pulpit?
The name given to a heavily eroded outcrop of calciferous sandstone on the southern slopes of West Lomond at the head of Glenvale. Although the Protestant reformer John Knox may never have preached here, it was the scene of Presbyterian conventicles held during the ‘Killing Times’ in the late 17th Century.

As you enter the woodland the road splits into three. Carry straight on up the middle road until, just before the road crosses a stone bridge over a burn, a large boulder on your left points the way to Maspie Den. Follow this path, which skirts around the 19th Century House of Falkland. Ignore the wooden steps to your left.
How long is the walk to Maspie Den?
Maspie Den is a nice 3 mile walk through woodland to a pretty gorge with waterfalls and good views. It involves a little ascending and can be muddy but is well worth making the effort.
Is the Maspie Den on East Lomond circuit closed?
The Den can be visited as a shorter walk from the Estate car park, but here we describe it as a loop from picturesque Falkland village, providing a great alternative if time or energy are insufficient for the full East Lomond circuit. The upper part of the walk – where it passes behind the waterfall – are currently closed due to a landslip.
When is the best time to visit Maspie Den?
It is one of few Renaissance style palaces in Scotland (Stirling Castle is another one), and a particular highlight is the Royal Tennis Court in the gardens, the oldest tennis court in Britain. The palace fell into ruin eventually but was restored during the 19th and 20th century. Today the palace can be visited between March and October.
