With the evolution of computer technology, the boundaries between what a DVD-R and a CD-R can store are disappearing. Traditionally, blank CD-R discs could only burn music, while DVD-R discs could burn videos. Since optical lasers read both discs, using a blank DVD-R in place of a CD-R to store music is not uncommon.
Can a DVD play in a CD player?
A DVD is physically different than a CD, so it will not play in a CD player. While a DVD-audio format exists, very few players will play it, especially in cars. So forget DVDs. A better solution is to convert the audio into MP3 format and burn the MP3 files on to a CD-R formatted as a DATA CD. Most modern car CD players will play MP3 DATA CDs.
Can a CD RW play in a car?
You should use CD-R or CD+R discs. CD-RW’s usually do not play. You must finalize the disc, or it won’t play. It will almost certainly be OK on any home or car CD player. All the CDs in my car are done this way. As others have said, you’ll only get about 80 minute’s worth on a single audio CD disc.
