What is resin bound stone?
Resin Bound is a surfacing solution that results from mixing resin and aggregates together in a forced action mixer. This creates a mixture that can be trowelled onto a surface to provide a smooth, flat finish. A Resin Bound system is also known as ‘stone carpet’.
Is resin bound gravel expensive?
Generally, resin–bound driveways are more expensive than block paving. However, the resin needs far less maintenance and you can lay it directly onto an existing driveway, so might work out cheaper in the long term.
Is resin bound gravel good?
Its longevity: resin bound paving is a long lasting durable surface. While guarantees vary between 10 – 21 years, when properly installed and maintained, can last for more than 25 years. It requires minimal maintenance: there are no weeds to ‘weed’ or loose stone to sweep.
Is resin bound gravel cheaper than paving?
Overall resin-bound paved driveways are cheaper than block paving. However, resin bound driveways will not have weeds growing in between the gaps, as there aren’t any. They will also not have any displacement issues, so no costs to repair or re-lay.
Can resin bound be laid on concrete?
Resin bound surfacing can be laid on either a concrete surface (non permeable) or on a permeable asphalt surface.
Are resin drives Slippy?
In resin bound driveways, resin and gravel are mixed together before being applied. When the material is laid down, it is smoothed into a layer 15-20mm thick with the appearance of gravel. Because of the smoothing process, this type of resin driveway is limited in surface texture and can be slippery when icy or wet.
Can you lay resin over concrete?
Resin bound surfacing does bond well to concrete surfaces. Concrete is capable of absorbing moisture but it is not permeable. And therefore care should be taken to install sufficient ‘falls’ and drainage when installing a concrete base, or laying over an existing concrete.
Is resin good for patios?
A resin bound gravel patio is permeable allowing water to pass through and saying goodbye to puddles. The great news is you don’t need planning permission to install a permeable surface. It is easy to clean and will last in excess of 25 years. It’s resistant to weeds – a stiff brush will keep most weeds at bay.
Can I lay a resin driveway myself?

When to use stone or resin bound driveway?
A smaller stone (aggregate) won’t allow surface water to drain as easily as a larger stone. Therefore, only use a smaller stone if drainage to bedding or drainage system is in place. We consider a ‘full resin bound installation’ from start to finish, is always the best way to go.
What’s the difference between resin bound stone and permeable stone?
Our permeable paving product is a variation of our resin bound stone which allows for hardstand load bearing yet permeable paved areas. A permeable surface is one which allows liquids to flow through it. This is traditionally done with loose stone which can be messy requiring renewal and high maintenance.
Can you use crushed glass with resin bound stone?
We offer resin bound stone in a wide variety of colours to offer you the right look and feel for your surface. Our resin can also be used with specially prepared crushed glass. For foot traffic areas, the use of crushed glass with resin on its own or in addition to our resin bound stone offers many more design possibilities.
